However, you should arm yourself with patience for frequent delays and limit yourself to this option if time is not a priority.<br>For those <strong>traveling in groups<\/strong>, you can hire a <strong>driver with a car<\/strong> or <strong>minivan<\/strong>, a convenient but more expensive option. beautiful, vibrant and welcoming <strong>colonial city<\/strong>, was the <strong>central part of my trip<\/strong> to discover this beautiful Mexican peninsula. Known as the<strong>&#8220;White City<\/strong>&#8221; for its limestone buildings, Merida is a <strong>cultural center rich in tradition and art.<\/strong> Here I spent several days exploring:  <\/p><ul><li><strong>San Ildefonso Cathedral<\/strong>, one of the oldest in the Americas.<\/li><li><strong>The Government Palace<\/strong>, with murals telling the history of the region.<\/li><li><strong>Paseo de Montejo<\/strong>, an elegant street lined with historic European-style buildings, including the famous Casa de Montejo.<\/li><\/ul><p><br>Merida is a beautiful, safe, colorful and culturally rich city, like its inhabitants. It has two well-defined souls: a &#8220;super local&#8221; one, where you can get lost among the traditional small stores and mobile cafes frequented by local Mexicans, and a more &#8220;modern&#8221; one, which offers elegant restaurants and top-notch cultural attractions. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3511c81 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3511c81\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Where to eat<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4ab535f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4ab535f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To savor <strong>typical Yucatecan dishes<\/strong>, I recommend the mini street kiosks such as <strong>Taqueria La Lupita<\/strong>, where you can enjoy excellent poc chuc. freediving schoolDharma, I <strong>explored cenotes hidden in the jungle<\/strong>. Each cenote has a history and its own uniqueness: some are covered by rock domes, others completely open, with deep blue waters. <\/p><p>Both training sessions and free dives can be done (arrangements must be made in advance), and the experience is really worth the whole trip.<\/p><p>After two hours of diving that I wished would never end, we had lunch at a typical local house, <strong>enjoying dishes such as <em>cochinita pibil<\/em><\/strong> and handmade <em>tortillas<\/em>. This experience was a perfect blend of adventure and culture, and I highly recommend (even for those who use tanks) to try it. <\/p><p>Apnea trips to cenotes are to be arranged privately with local instructors and schools. <strong>Tulum<\/strong>, famous for its <strong>cenotes and ruins<\/strong> overlooking the <strong>Caribbean Sea.<\/strong>\n\nI recommend exploring the breathtaking ruins of the <strong>Temple of the Wind God<\/strong>, located on a cliff overlooking the ocean.\n\nHere I had the good fortune of freediving training with Matthieu Duvault (author of these incredible underwater photos), a highly experienced instructor and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/cenotefreediving.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cenote Freediving<\/a>. My first <strong>dive in a cenote<\/strong> was a magical moment: the crystal clear water, the limestone walls, and the light filtering in from above made the experience unforgettable. The cenote I trained in was particularly impressive, surrounded by lush jungle and inhabited by colorful fish.  \n\nApnea trips to cenotes are to be arranged privately with local apnea or scuba instructors and schools. Uxmal, built between the 6th and 10th centuries, was an important ceremonial and cultural center.  <\/p><p><br>Visiting Uxmal was a unique experience for me: in early November, the <strong>site was virtually deserted<\/strong> except for a few small groups with local guides. del Carmen, <\/strong>for me a base for a final farewell to the Cenotes (as well as finally some Caribbean Sea).<\/p><p>I chose this destination because it was the base of Pedro Tapia (recent CNF national title holder) and his Apena Mexico school, as well as near the Cenote Maravilla. After the day of free and cable diving, with divers on the bottom exploring the caves, we ended with a typical lunch in Puerto Morelos. <\/p><p>Playa itself, on the other hand, is a very touristy town (unfortunately) overlooking <strong>the Costa Maya<\/strong>. Beaches with spectacular Caribbean waters and a convenient base for exploring the area. It is also a good starting point for <strong>visiting Cozumel<\/strong>, <strong>an island famous for its extraordinary seabed<\/strong>, perfect for snorkeling and diving.  <\/p><p>Apnea trips to cenotes are to be arranged privately with local instructors and schools.
