I just finished an unforgettable week-long trip to the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, during which I explored some of the region’s most fascinating cenotes. I wrote about it here as a Must-See Destination.
This experience, a perfect mix of training sessions and free diving, was enhanced by the company of top freedivers and instructors, making each dive unique and emotionally charged.
If you are dreaming of immersing yourself in these magical places, read on-I will tell you about my experience and how you could experience it too.
Tulum: cable training in an oasis of tranquility
My journey began in Tulum, where I chose to train on the cable in a Cenote surrounded by nature. This place, far from the chaos and surrounded by lush vegetation, offered me the perfect serenity to focus on technique and depth. The experience was made even more unique by the presence of an internationally renowned instructor, who led the sessions with professionalism and passion. The dives took place at different depths, and each meter downhill seemed to bring me closer and closer to the inner peace that only freediving can provide in one of the most picturesque places I have ever seen.
Merida: free diving in the jungle
After Tulum, I moved to the Merida area, where I explored two cenotes hidden in the heart of the jungle. These places, shrouded in an aura of mystery and tranquility, provided some of the most beautiful moments of the trip. It wasn’t just freediving here, but a complete immersion in nature in two truly special places. I was fortunate to share this experience with Charlie, founder of Dharma and now a dear friend. With him, every dive was an unforgettable adventure, punctuated by laughter, sharing stories, and moments of pure connection with the water and everything around us.
Playa del Carmen: deep emotions in a spectacular Cenote
The final leg of my trip took me near Playa del Carmen, where I had the opportunity to dive in one of the most beautiful cenotes in the area. The water here is so crystalline it seems unreal, and the light filtering through the natural openings creates breathtaking displays of color. Once again, I was fortunate to be accompanied by highly experienced freedivers (including the two newly crowned national champions of Mexico and Spain), who made this adventure even more thrilling. Every moment underwater was a celebration of the natural beauty of these places and the connection that freediving can create between body, mind, and the environment.
