Mobula migration: Baja California Sur
From May 9th to 15th we will fly to Baja California Sur (Mexico) for a week dedicated to the ocean, its migrations and one of the most powerful spectacles you can experience in the open sea: mobula swarms gathering in groups of hundreds of individuals, moving together following ancient routes.
This isn’t a tourist trip. It’s a true expedition, with daily boat trips, full days at sea, and a small group of up to six people.
Few participants to move better, wait for the right moment and experience everything at the right pace.

Why Baja California Sur and why in May?
This region is one of those places where the ocean dictates the rules. In May, the waters become a key point for mobula migrations, which gather in impressive numbers along the coast.
It will be the month when the probability of encountering them is high, the conditions favorable, and the days long. For this reason, the expedition is planned without overcrowding the program: we set out to sea every day, leaving room for encounters and the unexpected.
The expedition is organized in collaboration with Alma Libre, which has also accompanied us on other adventures.
Where are we going
We will land in La Paz, the natural gateway to Baja California Sur. From here we will move on to La Ventana, one of the best points for this type of excursion and an ideal base for moving every day at sea.
La Ventana is simple, open, with an energy that revolves around the water and the wind. No big resorts, no crowds. Just the right balance of comfort and nature.
We will be guests in a well-maintained glamping, surrounded by nature: accommodation in the facility, shared dinners, often in front of the fire, spaces to really slow down after days at sea.
We’ll also offer free SUP and kayak rentals, perfect for relaxing trips in the bay’s crystal-clear waters right in front of your accommodations. For those looking for a different experience, you can book individual or group kitesurfing lessons with local instructors. Lessons are optional and not included in the trip price.
A place designed to recharge your batteries, move freely on the water, and enjoy the slow pace of life without having to fill it up.
What will we experience
An expedition designed for snorkeling and fun diving
- No freediving certification is required and we will not work on depth
- The heart of the trip will be the boat trips (full day) with lunch included on board
- Every day will be dedicated to the search for mobula migrations, but the ocean remains free to surprise us: dolphins, large pelagic fish, unexpected encounters will be part of the game
- We navigate, observe, enter in the water when the conditions are right, without forcing anything.
If we are lucky, we may encounter some passing orcas. An encounter is not guaranteed, but in Mexico swimming with orcas is regulated and allowed only to a few authorized boats, subject to strict rules. A positive change related to responsible tourism: many captains have given up shark fishing to accompany people out to sea.
Program (6 nights - 7 days)
📍 Day 1 – Arrival in La Paz and transfer to La Ventana
📍 Day 2 – First full-day boat trip to hunt for mobula sharks

📍 Day 5 – Free activities: SUP, kayak, or kitesurfing lesson
📍 Day 6 – We continue with a full day in the open ocean
📍 Day 7 – Check-out and farewells
